Angelique Govy, a renowned artist and director, has created a groundbreaking VR music experience called "Space." Drawing inspiration from space, artificial intelligence, and robotics, Govy has crafted a mesmerizing journey that combines music, virtual reality, and visual art.
What sets "Space" apart is that it was entirely created in VR using TiltBrush. This innovative approach allows users to immerse themselves in a virtual world where they can explore the intricacies of the design. The experience showcases the Singularity within the SpaceTime Continuum and the Event Horizon of a Black Hole.
To ensure accessibility for those without VR access, Govy also created a music video that captures the essence of the VR experience. Filmed in Unity, the video faithfully represents the VR journey, providing a glimpse into the otherworldly adventure.
The technical specifications of "Space" require a VR headset to fully enjoy the TiltBrush VR piece. Despite being a one-week project with no budget, Govy's expertise shines through in every aspect of the design. This is her first foray into VR, and she seamlessly combines TiltBrush and Unity to create a captivating experience.
Interacting with "Space" is a truly immersive experience. Users can move around, zoom in and out, and explore the intricate details of the figure. For those without VR access, the music video offers a gateway to the mesmerizing world created by Govy.
The creation of "Space" took place in Tokyo in early 2018, with Govy dedicating one week to bring her vision to life. Extensive research underpins the design, exploring the concept of Singularity within the SpaceTime Continuum. The design features a Golem/Android figure contemplating a small sphere that seemingly contains a universe, generated from its umbilical-like cord. The design ultimately reveals that the figure inhabits a similar sphere, which transforms into the event horizon of a black hole. This piece serves as a metaphor for both the Gravitational/SpaceTime Singularity and the Technological Singularity.
Govy faced several challenges during the creation of "Space." Working with VR TiltBrush presented limitations, as it is more akin to painting in a VR space rather than creating true 3D models. Additionally, mastering both TiltBrush and Unity within a week was a demanding task. However, Govy's dedication and expertise allowed her to overcome these obstacles and deliver a truly unique and captivating experience.
"Space" is a testament to the power of art, technology, and music coming together. Angelique Govy's innovative approach to VR and her ability to create a seamless fusion of music and visual art have earned her the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2018. This recognition highlights the exceptional design, practicality, and innovation that "Space" embodies, making it a true masterpiece in the world of computer graphics, 3D modeling, texturing, and rendering.
